World Book Day

Children’s Books Ireland has partnered with World Book Day in Ireland. This key date in many children’s and schools’ calendars aims to promote the importance of reading for children and to ensure that all children have access to excellent books. During its 25th birthday in 2022, booksellers and publishers gifted two million €1.50/£1 books through World Book Day via local charity partners. Thanks to support from An Post, Children’s Books Ireland donated 14,000 of these to children in Irish hospitals, direct provision, homelessness services and Travelling communities.

In 2023, World Book Day will look to build on this and reach more children than ever – especially those from harder to reach communities and disadvantaged backgrounds. An extensive programme of activities to encourage and support reading will take place with authors, illustrators, publishers, retailers and partners.

To celebrate World Book Day, Children’s Books Ireland wishes to programme and market an event with the authors and illustrators of the two Irish World Book Day books – one event in Irish with Andrew Whitson and Máire Zepf and a second in English with Margaret Anne Suggs and Alma Jordan. We would engage an expert programmer and marketer in Sarah Webb to ensure that schools can attend the event at Liberty Hall in Dublin in the day. We would also supply World Book Day books to the children attending and ensure that access is free for schools.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
