The LAB Gallery Publications
Two publications in response to exhibitions at the LAB by emerging artists Michelle Malone and Joanna Kidney. Recent graduate Michelle Malone’s exhibition, O, to have a little house is currently showing at the LAB Gallery. Michelle’s work is rooted in a desire to materially explore working class histories through personal experience.
This publication will offer another format to explore her childhood experience of home and most particularly her grandmother’s house and experience of moving from flat 1A in Fatima Mansions to new social housing in the suburbs.
The second publication, A Swinging Pendulum, is in response to Joanna Kidney’s exhibition at the LAB and will include an intro by curator Sheena Barrett and an essay by writer Joanne Laws alongside images of the work by Rós Kavanagh. The publication will form a timely record of Joanne’s exploration of encaustic painting. Using drawing as a tool for thinking, translation, and discovery, Kidneys’ work explores the values of her artistic practice – which include curiosity, elasticity, and the handmade.
