Mayo County Council, funded festivals and events around the county in order to entice people to visit Mayo. The highlight was the weekend festival that stranded Foxford, Castlebar and Clare island.

The first event was a mega feis ceoil with Irish children getting to perform music and dancing with children from New York in Foxford. Over 100 people attended the performances. On Saturday musicians from America and Ireland attended music workshops where they were taught new tunes and shown how they could compare and improve their techniques. The singing group had a very rare chance to learn from the renowned Sean Kane, and then all the children got to perform on stage with him in the worlds class TF Royal Theatre to a crowd of over 700 people that night. World renowned musician Matt Molloy, song writer Brendan graham and “Amarillo” man himself Tony Christie also performed. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for these children. The concert has been shown on Mayo TV a number of times this year.

A trip to Clare Island was the highlight on Sunday with beautiful weather on a stunning day. There were numerous performances by the island musicians and dancers, American musicians and musicians from all over Mayo and then a combined session with everyone performing with up to 50 musicians at a time. Relatives of the children from all over Ireland also attended. A huge flotilla of  people took the boat out for the event.

Over 80 visitors from the US and almost 200 people from all over Ireland attended and took part in the weekends events. In excess of 36 million people engaged with the Home to Mayo campaign online.
