Moate Action Group - Saving VHS and DVD – Plays and Variety shows and annual events
Moate Action Group (MAG) addresses the regeneration of Moate town and hinterland through social, economic, environmental, and built form.
From the late 1970 s ’Moate Drama Group and Moate Variety Club performed plays and Variety shows. Most of these shows were recorded on VHS tapes, subsequently some of these were transferred to DVD’s. In addition, there are recordings of social events such as agricultural shows. Both forms of recording are now outdated, and the equipment is less available, as technology moves forward. These recordings are important visual records of community life over the past forty years, and it would a great loss to posterity if they were not saved in a secure manner.
MAG have set up a group of four interested individuals who were involved in the original productions who will implement the project under the auspices of Moate Action Group. They have contacted two professional companies for advice, it is difficult to estimate the overall cost of the project as there are more than 100 videos/ DVDs involved.
A copy of the finished project will be made available to Westmeath County Council and Moate library. It will be saved to the ‘cloud’ and its availability will be advertised on our website and Facebook page. it will also be shared with other face book pages such as Moate is Open and Moate Memories. Every effort will be made to bring the project to as wide ban audience as possible.
