Connections- the way back to our Roots/Routes’ South-East Greenway

The Southeast Greenway is a joint initiative of Wexford, Kilkenny, and Waterford County Councils. In Wexford, the Greenway follows the line of the disused New Ross to Waterford Railway. It passes through the Mount Elliott Tunnel, over the renowned Red Bridge and the river Barrow.

The aim of this project is to bring generations together and gather the wealth of stories from the past to the present. This in turn will relate to and entertain the visitor and local community alike.

To reveal the cultural significance of the Greenway, its sense of place and identity several themes will be looked at. These will be:-

Stories of previous occupations and events plus the use of places.

Identification and biodiversity of native species along the Greenway.

Placenames about the physical features of the landscape and the people who once left their mark.

Objects of our agricultural past & architectural features such as Bridges.

Role of the railway especially around farming and movement of goods.

Use of sustainable and / or recycled materials in the realisation of the final artworks.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
