Recaptured + Draped
This inclusive project will give the public the autonomy to be creative and give participants a free, engaging and positive experience with emerging artists in the Midlands. Firstly, the foundation of the project will be a four-part series of virtual workshops. To be involved the participant can use any leftover material they have at home. One can download a completed pattern online (basic, intermediate and advanced) or request a printed pattern by post. From this, painter and visual artist Úna Cahill will demonstrate how to paint and decorate the cut fabric. Everyone will be encouraged to value the characteristics of found materials and their ability to transform sustainably. Secondly, the returned material will be gathered and sewn into banners of ‘collective memories’ by fashion designer Ciarán Mac Domhnaill. Lastly, the collaborative artwork will be displayed in the public arena and create a meaningful engagement between the wider community and professional artists.
Who can get involved? The online sessions will be inclusive and free of charge. All participants will be invited to immerse themselves in the workshop and the outcome will be a physical piece of work that is executed by professionals. Furthermore, social media will play a key role in the delivery and involvement of the public and local industries i.e. sponsorship: #creativeireland #arttherapy #visualart #publicart #westmeatharts #craftsathome #virtualworkshop
