Crafted Conversations
Crafted Conversations – a participatory arts programme for older people led by the Cork City Library Service. The programme contains two artist-led project strands, both of which centre on the act of making as a stimulus for conversation, storytelling and reminiscence. In each, the participants will also have the opportunity to learn new skills and create tangible artistic works.
Strand 1: Tinned Stories
Visual artist Aoife Barrett will engage with participants to weave stories into bespoke printmaking stamps which will be used to create visual narratives. Working one-to-one with participants, encouraging conversation and creativity, their stories and memories will create a unique tin of stamps and a handmade book or printed artwork illustrating the story.
Strand 2: Stitching the City - Remembering Cork’s architecture and heritage through textile
Led by textile artists Anne Kiely and Carmel Creaner, Cork’s historic architecture will be used as a theme for weaving and stitching workshops that will creatively engage with residents in care settings. The buildings and the process will encourage reminiscences and memories associated with familiar and remembered places, encouraging conversation and creativity.
