This project takes quotes, conversations and experts from the work of Listowel and North Kerry poets, songwriters and writers and turns them into bold, colourful and thought-provoking typographic murals around the town. This project provides a collaborative platform for local groups and the local community to work on a beneficial and worthwhile project, to reinvigorate the streets of Listowel and provide a key art installation for visitors experiencing the town and the North Kerry Greenway.

By promoting both local writers and artists, Listowel Characters showcases the town of Listowel as not only Ireland’s Literary capital but also as a creative capital. The project is led by Listowel Business & Community Alliance in conjunction with the Listowel Writers’ Week committee in sourcing relevant quotes and excerpts, as well as a number of local sign-writers to facilitate the work.

This project acknowledges existing documents and research which have helped in developing the concept. This project compliments and brings together the Listowel Heritage and Community Led Regeneration Strategy 2017, Listowel Town Centre Health check 2018, Listowel Economic Strategy 2019-2021 and the key attributes and stakeholders who work together to achieve a successful town centre, under the framework for town centre renewal.
