The Romeo and Juliet Project

“my only love sprung from my only hate, too early seen unknown and known too late”

This year we have missed welcoming our Junior cycle audiences to the dlr Mill Theatre to engage with a live production of Romeo and Juliet. The challenges of the pandemic and the lock down of theatre spaces have forced us to reimagine the way in which we might engage with you, our audience. We are aware that there are many excellent productions of the play available in a digital format, so rather than filming an entire production, we have decided to produce a package that will compliment, rather than replicate the student’s engagement with our live shows.

Funded by Creative Ireland and the Arts Council we have produced, with the needs of the Junior Cycle student firmly in mind, The Romeo and Juliet Project , which explores the play under the themes of Love and Conflict through an examination of key moments from the play. Rehearsal footage, insights into how director and designers make choices in terms of stage craft and excerpts from the play, will broaden the student’s understanding of the text and are very much examination focused. Interspersed with vox pops, character quizzes and trivia, this resource will be a fast paced, snappy and accessible learning tool. We so look forward to having you back into the theatre but in the meantime, we welcome you to The Romeo and Juliet Project.
