Adopt an Author is a programme designed to give local schoolchildren in DLR access to their favourite writers, and forms part of the Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival. Its aim is to develop relationships between primary school students and children’s authors to promote literacy, encourage writing and develop innovative uses of IT in schools. It's a unique opportunity for young readers to meet writers and to develop a deeper relationship with a specific book.

The 2020 Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival did not go ahead as planned in March 2020, due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. However prior to this, virtual visits between the authors and the selected primary schools were able to take place. Book packs were purchased for the participating schools.

The 4 authors/books/schools selected for 2020 were:

Shane Hegarty / Boot – Edmondstown NS & Our Lady of the Wayside NS

Chris Judge / Tiny and Teeny – St Oliver Plunkett NS

Patricia Forde / Mother Tongue  – Holy Trinity NS
