Finding Our Voice
The project is a collaboration between Colm Keegan and the Good Shedherd Centre (GSCK) service users, staff and board in conjunction with Creative Ireland and Kilkenny County Council. GSCK is a homeless service in Kilkenny. People experiencing homelessness are among the most marginalised people in our society. Access to normal everyday experiences can be inhibited through the effects of a lack of housing, poor mental health, relationship breakdown and addication for example.
The Finding Our Voice Project has two main objectives: To support service users, through creative expression and poetry, develop safe terms to express their thoughts and feelings on live experiences and develop creative pathways and promote service user involvement.
The project will run a total of 12 workshops to assist people through the medium of poetry over 11 weeks starting on 22nd September and finishing on 3rd October. Originally the project was to end with a performance of the service users work. However, this was stopped due to Covid 19 and it was decided to create videos for each participant accessing front line staff to speak on their behalf.
The project will attract a vast and varied audience. The audience will include families, service users, politicians, management and staff from HSE and Kilkenny's Local Authority services, local business owners and Kilkenny's creative sector. Of course, GSCK board, staff and supports will also be in attendance.
Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
