The Eco Showboat is a zero carbon floating environmental arts infrastructure that aims to navigate our network of interconnected inland waterways to spark new creative collaborations addressing climate change, fresh water ecology and biodiversity, working closely with local artists, scientists, academics and the wider community.

The Project is piloted by the School of Looking, a new organisation dedicated to cross-disciplinary arts founded by the collaborative partnership Cleary & Connolly.

The project is currently in development, and its home will be the 48 M, an original heritage barge.

In 2020, the Eco Showboat Creative Collaborations Programme will support a local artist or a creative team in Clare to develop new work in their own geographical area, that relates to climate change and that involves community engagement. These pieces are destined to be exhibited in the context of the ECO SHOWBOAT’s inaugural expedition.

The aims of this programme are to: produce new work that engages with communities and that responds to the widest possible interpretation of Climate Change and to mobilise the creative sector to spark responses to climate change within communities.

The Eco Showboat aims to set off on its first expedition on International Biodiversity Day in May 2021.
