And On We Go..
Griese Youth Theatre are based in Ballitore South Kildare, a small rural village, and celebrate their 21st anniversary in July 2020. In a sector that often proves to be difficult to survive in, GYT have continued to thrive and provide artistic learning and social opportunities to the young people of Ballitore and surrounding areas for over 20 years.
This installation project in the Meeting House will use archival material including scripts, photographs, quotes, programmes, posters, newspaper clippings, heart felt thank you cards and other moments of milestones celebrated over the last 21 years. The group will participate in a Sound Scape workshop with Dee Burke to create an accompanying sound design piece, which will be recorded and edited to run as part of the showing. The artist Emily Vaughan has been selected to introduce her professional expertise but also has a personal relationship with the group having spent much of her younger years as a youth theatre member herself. We see her return as a way to show current members how GYT sparked her interest in the arts and informed her career choice. This installation will celebrate the resilience of a diverse group of young people and their village, and aims to push the young people further in their own artistic practice, with a focus on carrying that self belief and resilience into their own lives.
